So you’ve booked your flight and accommodations to Playa Guiones, Costa Rica and you are getting excited about traveling to this lush and tropical vacation destination. The next thing to do is figure out what to bring! Embarking on a trip to a climate where the average temperature is 80 degrees Fahrenheit and humid half of the year, there are certain items you must shouldn’t forget to pack before you go.

Before you pull out your largest suitcase yet, remember that traveling to warm climates is easier, and you can pack more lightly, because you don’t have to bring as many layers of clothing! A medium sized suitcase and a backpack should suffice, or simply a larger travel backpack by itself. This will free up your hands so you can acquire things while you travel, and not have to be bogged down by so much stuff.

Speaking of stuff, if you are a beginning surfer, you do not need to bring your own surfboard! In fact, Playa Guiones, and many other surf towns in Costa Rica provide board rentals for your convenience. So if you want to save money on luggage fees, this is a great way to do so.

What goes in your backpack? Make sure to bring everything you need for sun protection, especially if you are fair-skinned. This includes sunscreen, hats, rash guards, sunglasses, and even water sunglasses (for the dedicated ocean enthusiast). Light cotton or linen clothing is recommended, because of the warm climate and mosquitos. Although a warm jacket, pants and boots aren’t recommended, a rain jacket is important if you are traveling during the “wet” season. If you are a surfer make sure to bring surfboard wax, board shorts and bikinis, because you will basically be living in these items. All in all traveling to this region is easy because you can pack light and buy anything else you might need when you arrive.
